What is the minimum strengh needed

To damage a hearth fire? It doesn't matter how miniscule the damage is, I just would like to know.

It depends on what you've got equipped in your hands.

With a stone axe, you need at least 25 strength.

With a pickaxe, I think 15 (?) maybe someone else can confirm.

to the best of my knowledge hearth fires have a soak value of 25 so you need at least 26 to damage them, however that damage would be tiny you want a lot higher than that to get it done in a reasonable time

Damage is calculated based on your score of sqrt(str). A damage soak of 25 is actually the value of a palisade, and requires 400+ str to damage with a sledgehammer.

I've heard 36 str is enough to hurt it with bare hands, that puts the soak at 6. It might be that the soak is 5 and people think you need to deal a full point of damage per tick to do anything. Either way, If that's true, 16 str to hurt it with a pickaxe, 25 with a stone axe.

Mind you though, it has a helluva lotta health. So bring water.

Bear Cape + Stone Axe, you get it easy. A waterskin and some q10 water is almost all you need.

HF soak is 5. Your object destroying damage is the square root of your strength, +1 with a stone axe, +2 with a pickaxe, or +4 with a sledgehammer. Dual wielding does nothing. This means you can break them with 36 strength bare handed, 25 strength and a stone axe, 16 strength and a pickaxe, or 4 strength and a sledgehammer. It uses your modified strength, not your base strength, so anything that adds strength will count towards this.
