Carrot farming tips & schedule ?

Postby Gustyboy » Sun Apr 17, 2011 3:23 am

Hi,

If I understood well the Wiki, the carrots have a 20h growing time, and must be harvested during 3rd stage to gather seeds.

So for my Carrots farming, I have 2 fields :
- Crops selection : I keep the 6 best seeds ql to raise the ql of my carrot seeds and carrots
- Carrot farming : I plant all the other seeds to farm carrots.

I plan to keep 9 seeds when I'll have enough of it.

My problem is : Can I calculate when the 3rd stage will be available ? I must be able to schedule when I can plant my selected seeds to be able to harvest them during the 3rd Stage to get more seeds.
So, what's the trick ?

Thanks.

no...just no....

sorry.

you wait until carrots are finished growing to harvest them, and then replant the carrot, if you harvest at the seed stage <blueish flecks on the top> then you will not get carrots at all.

assuming you start with one carrot, you replant all until you have the desired field size, then when you harvest, you replant the best ones, so you keep your size, then you eat the second best ones for the perc, then do what you like with the rest, usually just feed to animals if they're good enough or throw them

This is fine, except you're forgetting that you can plant carrots themselves. You can harvest early, to get seeds and replant faster, in case you want to get higher quality faster or a larger field faster, or let them grow into carrots, and replant the carrots themselves. There's no harm in waiting, but if you're in a rush you can replant seeds faster, or toss the seeds into a trough. Carrot seeds are one of the fastest, most plentiful, and most useful things to feed animals. When you can let the carrots grow and don't have to rush to keep them from starving, then you'll have a large field of high q perception food.

Carrots grow very rapidly. You'll be bringing in more than one harvest per day (like, once every 15 hours or so?) especially when you get a beehinve or two. You'll find yourself throwing away carrots. So difficult to get, but when they start growing you get hundreds of them. Because of this, you should use a small carrot patch, because you'll be harvesting it frequently. Or a large carrot patch and some cattle. Convert that per carrot into con beef, or any cheese.

Thanks for the advice !

I'm already overwhelmed by beetroot and beetroot leaves ;)
I started to try to trade some domesticated animals, but for now I only got a female pig. But I'll continue my quest to have a good farm in our base ;)

Thanks for all the tips.

Hit me a PM, I may be close enough and not-lazy enough to trade you some cattles.
