New update - almost got me killed

So I saw a fox outside and it caught my attention. I have never fought one of these beast before (I'm a farmer, not a miner) I decided to test my strengh on them. I was doing faily well but was loosing, and knew there was no way I could beat it. I decided to X out, log back in, and start from hearth fire. I tried to do that but as soon as I clicked play it didn't give me an option, it just took me right back to fighting that evil fox (which is kinda good because it removes the cheese way of getting out of fights) . I tried again, thinking it must have been a bug, still back to the fox. Terrified I ran to my base, taking damage on the way. Eventually I got into my house almost dead.

So the main thing I want to know is, when I X'd out was my character still in the game and taking hits even thought I was offline?

Yes, you cannot logout while engaged in combat. If you do, your character stays present in the game world (as if you're just afk).

Also this has nothing to do with the new update and has been in place in the game for years.

It saved me from a boar before TWICE.

Also on a side note, it saved me on the regular client 2/2 times, but on enders it did not save me at all. Could it have just been the different client I was using?

It didn't "save" you at all, you simply got lucky. After KOing you, an animal has a random chance of deciding to continue attacking you. If you're attacked while you're KOed you'll be dealt HHP damage and likely die. Logging out has no effect on this chance. Logging out while engaged in combat is basically like closing your eyes real tight during a scary scene in a movie. It doesn't change what happens, only makes it so that you don't have to watch in suspense.

I think I will wait until I get a bit scarier myself before fighting animals again.

Yes, yes I did. If you could get out of death against an animal wouldn't you try? There is no point in doing that, it's not like the animal is going to call you a pussy and raid your base everyday.

Perhaps, except this isn't a single player game, and I will gladly call you a pussy. Shame I don't know where your base is though...
