I just need to know what are Vaults.
I heard they are illegal and stuff .

I would be pleased If you could show me ane examples :D

the one shown in op is not a complete illegal vault, confirmed as legal by jorb, but you can get the idea by reading the rest. (you cannot build this type of vaults any more since viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17564)

Vaults are small defensive structures that you hide in when you aren't murdering people. The msot common ones usually involve layering walls; making rings of walls separated by 10 tiles of empty space, so whoever attacks you is going to need quite a few rams.

I think the term vault specifically refers to something that cannot have rams placed beside it. Taking a small island and building a wall all the way around it so it's impossible to build a battering ram for example.

But yeah, you can make a fucker of a defensible compound if you layer walls 10 squares apart 4-5 deep. It would take days to get to you if you made it out of brick.

a vault is any structure intended to house the hearthfires of criminals behind fortification. an illegal vault is one that cannot be rammed.

Of course they are. People always get hung up on the word "Vault" like it's something illegal. It's simply a secure storage area for your valuable goods / characters. Hence the term "vault".

What about underground vaults that are penetrable, but will be a giga pain in the ass to get to (Because for my vault you have to explore a cave cross deep water then break brick walls).

As long as it's possible to build a ram at, its legal.
