Does mining with a Cylinder Hat increase chance of metal?

Postby Bugssy » Tue Apr 26, 2011 12:53 pm

Wiki states "Cylinder Hat: +1 Industry, +5 Charisma"

Also: "A character with a high industry belief will be much more successful in mining ore that will yield bars than a character with a high nature belief."

Is it worth wearing a Cylinder hat for mining, instead of the bear cape?

It depends on how much STR you have, how valuable the ore is, if you are concerned about the size of the deposit... multiple factors. In general, the bear cape is preferable. Yes, the temporary industry change does increase the chance of your ores producing bars UNLESS your industry is full. You cant have more than 5 industry, even with the hat.

Because of not being able to pass 5 industry, the Cylinder Hat is in almost all cases useless. The only case where it isn't useless is if you have 4 Industry, are near a vein and don't need the strength of a bear cape or something else will provide.

The only use of a cylinder hat is to be worn by Darki together with a druids cloak and a B12...

It would be more useful if it modified your ind/nat slider beyond the -5/+5 range to -6/+4. I could see a theoretical use of someone that was neutral using it to go mining in to get a small bonus. Also, the +cha would be nice to log out in for a small authority boost when logging back in.

So you're saying you don't have enough ore to go around? I know it's still early game and all and making an alt for mining, while a bit tedious, isn't that hard. All the veins of copper, tin, and iron that I've found are so big that even cutting the return by half isn't going to hurt anything. The only time I'd insist on a full ind character mining ore would be for something like silver, gold, or very high q ore.
