Question about Scents/tracking

Well,what are scents? How can I find scents or how can I track animals/people?
I heard all over the forum about scents.Don't consider me a nub please I just never met any scents in game and I heard they're pretty usefull.So can I have some information on how to track people/animals or discover scents,please? I would be glad if you guys would help.

Scents are only used to track people. When someone commits a crime, they leave a scent on the floor that can be "picked up" by other people. Using the scent you can track a person or their hearthfire, and depending on scent you can summon them using their hearthfire in case they are offline. For more details just check the wiki, it's not that hard
