Some questions! (politics and animals )

Okay, i have two questions(wich are in no way related to eachother)
Im totally new to this game so bare with me
First one:
I found a cock and a chicken and i picked them up. Will they starve in my inventory? If so, then how long will it take, I caught them maybe two hours ago, when will they die?

Second:
How do you guys make contact with eachother? I see threads with diplomacy and such but what i wonder is how do two towns become friends / enemies and know eachothers names?
I've seen villages, i have no idea how to identify them, and all their inhabitants are called ??? for me.

#1: They will starve and if they do it halves their quality.

#2: You can leave a runestone with your forum name and information outside their gate. There's no great way to do it beyond that or running into each other in game.
