Well water quality

Postby Tommassino » Thu Apr 28, 2011 12:18 pm

Hi, I found a high quality well near somebodys camp, but lately he started to extend his claim so soon i will not be able to access the water. So, I started to look for my own high quality well but I had no luck with that. Is there any way to find out the quality of the water in the stream before actually building the well? It makes searching for this high quality water quite slow.
PS: i did search the river nearby for nodes but no luck

All resources in this game come in nodes. There is a point of highest quality and circles of lower and lower quality around that. The well happens to be sitting on a point near the center of a node and is high quality because of that. The nodes are random, there may be a Q100 node in the middle of a mudflat that you can never access in any way. So it's luck when well points and rivers cross the high Q nodes.

However, there's a way you can stop him expanding his claim. Pop a claim of your own (it can be an alt, the LP just for basic yeomanry is easy to get this far into the game) and put it on the well or as close to his base as possible. Even if you can't overlap the well, he won't be able to claim any closer than 5 tiles from your claim. If the well gets stuck in the unclaimed middle, you'll still be able to use it.

PS: For experienced players, anything under Q40 is considered low Q. High Q tends to be at least 50+. As the game world goes longer what's considered high Q slowly goes up as more nodes are found and start to be open for trade. By the end of the world give or take, 60-70+ is what's called high Q

I can see your problem. Water QL doesn't go down, so he/she will have no way of knowing what I suggest.

Suggestion 1) Create your own claim over the well, and hope that he/she doesn't have black skills. (Could end very badly)

Suggestion 2) Create a bunch of barrels and stockpile as much water as you can (1 barrel = 100l of water). I suggest ~10-15 barrels worth. (Better than Suggestion 1, but only temporary)

Suggestion 3) Keep looking for well spots, boat up and down the local river, etc (Very slow, but possible you could find better QL Water).

These are my suggestions, If anyone else has any I bet that they will be better than mine.

P.S. There is no way to tell the Well Water QL without building the well.

P.S.S. I just noticed that someone posted above me, but I'll post this anyways :P

Eh, go for suggestion one. Just make sure they're not around when you're taking from it. Better: only use the claim block like I said. The neighbour still gets to use the well and the neighbour can't block access. Like you said, wells don't go down in Q, so it's kind of harmless to share it. Only reason why you'd want them to not have it is so you can sell it to them.

How could putting a claim over the well end badly? He maybe pissed but unless he has a village he just has to suck it up and take the water and leave scents.

I like the idea to block them from claiming the well by dropping a claim near it, but not actually having the well claimed. Of course, if they drop a village claim later, they may be able to extend the vclaim over your personal claim and nuke it.

I like that too. Both I and he will have access to the well and everyone will be happy :)
Another thing i could do is, find another well nearby, it will probably have quite a high quality anyway (and possibly higher)

That's not a bad idea, either, though it could go either way. I usually build up all the wells I can spot just to see if the quality is going up or down.
