Securing my non-village estate

Postby Soniczap » Thu May 05, 2011 6:10 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and trying to get my bearings. The gameplay so far has been great, I love a good MMO sandbox. :)

After getting a feel for how the game works, I built a nice little estate and surrounded it by Roundpole fencing. Perhaps naively, I figured that if the gates we're closed, they were also locked. Is this true? If not, how can I lock my gate or otherwise secure by estate?

I logged in today to find that my place had been raided. I understand this is how the game works, so no big deal, but if there's way I can protect myself, I'd like to know.

Thanks guys, talk to you soon,

You can't lock fence. Make a claim and then build palisade.
You need to get yeomanry to make a claim and the palisade.

You have to get yeomanry, after which you can drop a claim which costs u 4 bones and 3 beautiful dreams. Once you have yeomanry, you're able to build a palisade which you can lock. Pallisade costs bone glue, leather and rope. Make sure you seal all your corner posts or people can lock you in. I'd recommend using a key alt to hold your key.

Hi and welcome, hope you enjoy your time here.
As far as your question goes, you will have to claim the area that your fence is on, and even then, anyone with vandalism will be able to open the gate. To claim your land, you have to purchase yeomanry, and also discover dreams bones and sticks.
The only way to really protect yourself is with a pallisade, unless you are a larger village and/or have valuable resources, and/or want to annoy lots of people, in which case you have to go brick wall, and even that is not 100% secure.
But for your purposes, a pallisade should be fine, although make sure you build it on paved ground and claim the area, and maybe a square or two outside it to prevent casual building of rams and decay.
Best of luck :)

Wow, thank you for the quick replies! I'll have to wiki the Yeomanry skill to see how to get to it.

Is there any way of securing my house or maybe containers? I just want to make sure I fully understand my options. Is there no way of protecting my things unless I have Yeomanry, a land claim, and palisades?

Thanks again for your help!

The only other way to protect anything of value is to create alts, (alternative characters) and load them up and log them out. You cannot be killed offline unless you have committed a crime above trespassing, so anything you put on them will be safe.
