Worth joining a village?

Postby Flaos » Sun May 08, 2011 7:46 am

Is it worth joining one?
I mean, Where i currently am i have a cave, and a few other rescources, yet possibly working with others may be fun?

But would i be able to do my own thing: like keep somethings, but contribute others?

I couldn't say. I don't understand the village mindset. Such is the life of a hermit.

depends on the village, but in general: yes

some villages have strict rules, some are more free.most allow you to have a personal plot somewhere.

basic rules:
-help others
-don't fuck things up( don't waste HighQ stuff for some bullshit, don't butcher a bear with survival 1 etc)
-don't take more than you give
-help with big village projects( paving a big area, build a wall etc)

pros: secruity, division of work( so people can specialize and thus increase quality), community experience

Sounds alright. I may hermit for awhile until i have a good reason to seek out a village

Best to hermit for a bit until you understand more of the game. Realistically speaking being a hermit keeps you out of the big leagues for anything Q wise, and it's unlikely you'll achieve more than local griefer status without other people around you. That kind of covers the two "walks of life" this game seems to support.

Biggest advantage of villages is specialization and extra labour. That stone mansion would take 3-6hrs to build solo, but with 3 people it can take 1-2 hours. Same number of labour hours but you get the goody sooner. As for specialization, someone will have 200 survival, someone will have 100 dex 100 sewing, that type of idea. Everything gets better much much faster. And you're likely to have a dedicated miner who can abuse the STR food to mine much lower than a hermit could ever expect to.

Biggest keys: Finding a village that is smart about defense. Finding a village with people you *enjoy* hanging around. If your village mates are insufferable, you won't want to play this game for very long.

That being said, there's no reason why you can't start your own village. If you meet some people you like in your area who speak a language you can understand, give it a shot.

I usually just chill out and eat STR food till I can break HF's, then teleport to a village, since I hate new accounts in villages.
