every tile needs a different str and a different quality tool.you will probably need a lot more str and a better tool to mine

well every tile has a different hardness( even harder on deeper levels) and it depens on your str and the quality of your tool.it is possible to mine with str10 and a q10 axe but the chances are pretty low.On lvl2 I had problems with a q50 stone axe and around 100str, for example

Just so you know:

Mining ability = sqrt (tool quality * Strength)

In order to mine a tile, your mining ability must be greater than the tile hardness (as was mentioned earlier).

And here's the link in case you've not seen the wiki: http://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Mining

Hmm. If you're good enough to sling boars, you can probably sling bears. Consider hunting down a bear and making a bear cape and bear tooth necklace; both grant sizeable bonuses to strength as well.
