once a lawspeaker is killed, how do they regain their status? if they do? and if not, who then from the village has the lawspeaker role?

Anyone can take over the lawspeaker role when the real one dies, just simply click on the idol and accept the lawspeaker status

If authority is over 50k only a village can take lawspeaker, so a villager must invite you to the village and then you take lawspeaker or you just have to wait.

and considering only lawspeaker and chief can invite in the first place that can be tricky.

What's the phrase? "In order to maintain peace, one must prepare for war."?

Just track the scents to see who did it.
You can play peaceful, but that doesn't alleviate the need for being able to defend yourself against those who don't.

yeah pointless tracking the scents, even if i found who did it, my village comprised of newish players and noobs. it was meant to be a way of learning the game in relative security. no one has the combat skills to take on people with weapons and necro gear tbh.

Necro gear adds nothing to combat ability. In fact, given you only need Murder to make it and then anyone can wear it, the fact someone has it on means nothing. People buy these just for the +Int bonus now. I bought murder just so I could make these for my village and sell to friendly neighbors.

The weapons are only about damage, not about combat ability. Could you take these guys? Maybe. If nothing else, I'm sure there are others in the area that will hunt them down for you.

Many griefers have no idea how to really fight, just pick on easy targets. Others do know how to fight, so care needs to be taken.
