Swimming and Lag

Postby cloakblade » Thu May 12, 2011 6:35 pm

So I really don't want to test this (though I my be able to alt spam test it), but does clicking across the river while swimming prevent lag from basically instant killing you.

In other words: If I stand on the Left side of the river and have enough stamina to cross it; Then tell my little character to move across the river in one movement (not click in the middle and then click on the other side); Then lag hits while I'm in the middle. What happens?
A: When time catches back up I will be on the other side of the river where I would be without lag.
B: Still swimming but without any extra stamina loss and my toon will continue to swim over to the other side.
C: Stopped in the middle while I freak out trying to tell my character to swim to the other side.
D: Dead.
E: Something else.

This is just normal lag not a crash.

Hopefully this question isn't too unclear. And if no one knows I'll have to test it myself for SCIENCE!

If you're already moving to point B when lag hits, you keep moving. If you start clicking like crazy, it might just cause you to stop where you don't want to and die.

Theoretically A, although I'd still probably freak out if something like that happened while I was swimming.

Well, there are more sources of lag. There are lag spikes due to internet connection, those shouldnt matter at all, because the server is handling the swimming, not you (if you swim with one click). Then there could be lags due do some server issues (dunno, some bugs in the server code) which cause delay, in that case you maybe could drown. Though I dont think it is very probable, because the way the server handles movement is surely normalized to time (otherwise players would move faster with less players online etc.).
