sqrt (str*tool quality) = Mining Ability
You need 1-5 more Mining Ability. What this translates to in terms of strength is variable depending on the numbers you plug into the formula.

You can always get a better tool. Boat out to a mountain and start digging for stones. It's very easy to get a higher Q than 11 stone axe. Alternatively you can buy one off the trade forums if you have a village idol and some curios to trade.

Not sure what you mean, but quality nodes have a highest central point and away from the center it only gets worse.

i know. i wanted to ask how large such a 11+ node could be. lets say it have 20 at its peak. how large would it be? 10x10 tiles or smaller?

Entirely random. I've seen a silver node take up multiple minimaps. Iron, copper, and tin too. I've also seen iron nodes dry up after just a few tiles in on the inverse.

Edit: I noticed that, sorry about the misunderstanding =)
