Palisades and Mining

More than one question this time.
1. I have just got a palisade cornerpost build and it finally set so I can start constructing the wall, however I need to make a gate but how do I access the option to make a gate or another corner post?
2. I prospected some copper about 20 spaces west of where we had planned on building our mine shaft when we got the items. To get to that copper do we have to build the mine shaft on top of the copper vein or can we build it 20 spaces from it where prospecting says there is no metal and be able to dig 20 spaces west to get to that copper?

1. You need 2 cornerposts exactly 2 tiles from eachother to have the option to make a gate. Generally people expand the initial post in a full square to provide the two necessary cornerposts to make a gate. You can only make a new cornerpost off of expanded sections. A cornerpost can be used to build an expanded section but not a cornerpost.

2. You can build it where ever you want and dig to the copper.

never build directly on top of where you found the ore,

see that neat 7x7 area at the bottom of the ladder? if you built ontop of a vein you kil that portion of the vein.

So maybe I didn't get this right... Do I have to make a second of the really expensive cornerposts? The initial ones that I make from all that bone and leather to start the wall in order to make a gate? I can't make a second cornerpost without extending wall between it in order to make the next cornerpost and there's no option to change the wall between into a gate.

If you can't expand around the other way to make a full square, then yes, you need to build another cornerpost.
