Help with Gate please

Every time i try and build my gate it tells me it can not be built there. I have to corner pieces with 2 tiles inbetween. are the tiles supposed to be stone plow or grass ? please help

Afaik you need to lay stone at this place. To be sure simply place a road through the gates, if not already happened. In that case I don't know what's wrong either
