Which stats to raise for combat? Detailed questions..

Postby Sitting_Bill » Sat May 21, 2011 7:30 pm

Hi,

I'm making what hopefully will be a combat-oriented character. At the moment I've got my strength, agility, intelligence, constitution and perception to 50, as they seem like the important ones for combat and general play. My question is - should I stop raising any of these at some point?

I figured raising intelligence beyond around 100 would be quite pointless, as it would become too hard to find good enough curios.

Perception I thought I would raise to about 100, and then if I raise exploration to 100 also that gives 10000PER*EXP, is this enough for reasonable ranging? Can I skimp a bit on perception?

How much am I actually going to need strength, if I go with a melee weapon/unarmed? I think I read that the damage from melee weapons is multiplied by sqrt(sqrt(STR)), is that right? But for "Knock his teeth out" it is just flat 2*STR? - This leads me to think that I should either focus pretty much fully on strength, for unarmed, or ignore it(?), for melee...

Agility I thought I should try and raise as much as possible, to get faster moves. Likewise Constitution, more HP is always nice...

Basically, if any of you experienced warriors can give me some advice, that would be great :)

Also, how high of a combat skill do I have to get before you guys would consider it "decent" enough to do PVP?

Cheers

Perception is only useful in combat for ranged weapons. While it's still useful up until around 10k exploration score (perc*expl), it is really only useful at higher levels if you're going to dedicate yourself to ranging (ie tracking criminals).

Int caps come in around 100-120. I forget the exact number, but this is where you can fill your mentory up with the best curios no matter the attention required. If you want to be harder to track, more never hurts, though.

Agi and Str have no real caps. More is better. Same with Con.

Others can elucidate on the merits of specific skill balances better than I can. However, I can tell you that you can completely ignore melee combat if you so desire. Otherwise, others do advocate a balance.

My final comment is: 100 is the minimum recommended UA for PvP combat by the community. However, I'd recommend 150 at this point. Anyone that is looking at needing to fight has gotten 100 at this point and those looking at pure combat have hit 150 or more.

Thanks man, thats really helpful. I guess I won't really bother to "try" to raise PER then, I'll just let it go up naturally as a side-effect of too many blueberry pies :).

And yes, my UA score is quite decent now - for some reason I find it much harder to raise attributes than skills...

Thanks a lot

So a note on INT is that you want to push barb at some point and as such you will need more INT than the required for a good curio set. Then you get buffed by merch robe. So the number is hard to tell though sense its easier to just level it as you go (or use a blueberry for variety) just level it as you go until like 200, you're full barb wearing merch robe and still feel fine. Plus stealth is fun.

Charisma is good to don't under estimate the Leadership attacks, in a party it can mean one person can get punked. But the function is a square root so the higher you push it the harder it is to get advantage. Make sure to push this decently about 100 buff (barb & merch robe).

Beyond that you are pretty much spot on. Basically Dex & Psy are worthless (currently), everything else is good.

You should put like 35, or so, points in MC just so you can use Valorous Strike as a finisher, a sword can often deal more than a full bar of health (B-Axe is even better).

Oh and don't go MC (beyond the above mention) until you have a good grasp of combat. Its currently has to be argued to even compete and I doubt anyone would argue that it is better.

Hmm, thanks a lot. I never realised Charisma could be useful in combat - I guess I'll start by raising that up to the level of my other attributes :)

Cheers

Charisma is only useful to the leader of a party. There's a few moves that give advantage, IP, etc to the rest of the party and is increased based on the leader's Cha score.

Cha is still useful to get up a bit. It helps improve the rate a village gains Authority from a character's LP gains. You'll probably get enough points from random increases from other FEP attempts.

Am I always the leader of my party (of one)? Or can I only do those moves when I'm with my village mates?

Cheers

You have to explicitly be in a party with at least one other person. It doesn't matter who's in the party with you.

charisma is also quite a nice one for a party leader to have as some abilities to give ip to all party members to his current target.
