Can i harvest crops on unowned fields?

Postby ElagantFrost » Sat May 21, 2011 8:24 pm

I found an abandoned house with some crops. There was 4 dead bodies, and for days nobody ever came there. I decided to take what i could get, since me and my bro had food gathering problems, a cart, a boat, and some food and crops were found. I cant harvest the crops though. I don't know how to grow, harvest, or even get wild crops. I do have the skills farming and plant lore, but i don't know how to get these crops, are they just not finished growing? They all look about the same, and I am pretty sure they are done, but when left clicked nothing comes up, what do I do?

Right click crops, click Harvest.

Right-click instead.

If you don't get prompted to harvest chances are that it's not ready yet and also that someone planted them within the last day or two and you should take note of this and the mix of nearby skeletons and promptly gtfo before whoever planted them comes back.

You need the farming skill to harvest crops. Make sure to have that if you don't.

If you're taking crops from what looks to be an abandoned plot, I have two recommendations:

1. Don't leave scents. You can't be completely sure that the owners will come back and track you down (or just some bored ranger at that), and
2. Replant anything you harvest as a courtesy to the owners or others that may wander by and need those plants/seeds.

I meant right click, i always say left for some reason. Anyway, i pretty much took every thing out of there, since the owner/owners haven't been there for about 3 weeks, they possibly forgot about the game, or forgot where their house was (highly unlikely), didn't leave any scents, and I couldn't get the crops, so I guess I'll just wait to find WWW once my skill gets up. I also have no clue how to build a well (I know it requires stone, stone making skill, and dowsing rod) since it isn't in the craft or build menus, possibly at a higher skill level, if someone could answer this it would be great.

Excuse me Barbarian, but I think I can help. When I joined a village. A mate of mine grew the first Hemp bud, I marveled at his creation and I asked "where did you get that?" I did not know where the original seed had come from, which was fairly reasonable, had they traded for it? Did they steal it?? Alas, he only replied "I grew it, Derp" Leaving me to my confusion without a single clue to the answer.

Later, on my own, I learned the truth; seeds for farming are created by the plant Wild Windsown Weed, on a drying rack or herbalist table it "evolves" into a random seed. Wish that guy wasn't an asshole so i could learn how to play faster

I found out who owned the camp, It was none other than a friend I had made a day before. He had friends there, and someone owned them with arrows, I gave him some stuff, so no harm done. He told me that you can harvest crops by going to landscaping and to go to crops, then harvest, is that true? I'm new to the game, and the wiki isnt really detailed in some areas, so replys would help.

Yes, you can harvest crops by using the "harvest crops" options. Pretty hard to believe, I know, but it's true.
