Bears

Alright, so i'm ready to go off my first bear and i was just wondering if you sling it from a boat do you handle it the exact same way as a boar? Chase it and punch it when it runs(if it runs?)

No.
You have a few ways to kill it. If you're going at range then either trap it at a shore before you start slinging it or only shoot it when it twitches. Alternatively, use a q10 sling to shoot it so that you'll never make the damage threshold to frighten it off. It runs faster than you and can quickly get so far off screen of you that it despawns.

If you don't mind going into melee with it and have some water shallows that you can utilize to fight it at a safe distance:

I typed up a really in depth reply about the situation but when I went to submit it it said the thread didn't exist so here's the cliffnotes version.

If you shoot an animal immediately after it "twitches", it will never run away. Makes killing boars/deer/bears ridiculously easy.

Twitches as in when it tries to make combat but it can't because of the water?

What's the timing on this? Do you need to predict the timing or just click once you see the twitch?

Nah, it's really just any time a second or so after the twitch.

I had always heard people talk about shooting animals "when they twitch" and assumed you had to time it perfectly or something, but it's actually just a little bit after they twitch and it'll still work.

Makes hunting a breeze. I killed 3 bears and 4 deer in like 20 minutes.

I've never timed it exactly, to be honest. It's really consistent though so it's probably a set iteration in which the animal attempts to repath to you. I won't even hazard a guess as it'll be pulled out of my ass.
Clicking when you see it twitch works though.
