Metal rarity

Postby Sitting_Bill » Mon May 30, 2011 1:32 am

Hi,

How rare are the various metals? I've found a nice spot with iron, copper and tin, and q36 clay, all within ~250 tiles of each other. Would you guys consider this a decent place to set up a small settlement?

Thanks for your advice,

sounds pretty darn good for a mining town, but metals are pretty abundant in this world >_>
also you might want to find better than Q36 clay (eventually) <_<
loftar: New hair styles? Really? Seeing how Jorb never gets off his lazy ass to draw some, I almost want to add them to the game proper.

OK, thanks for your advice :)

Yeah, im expecting to buy clay eventually, but to get me going I'm hoping this will do for now.

Cheers

Rule of thumb: q40+ clay, q40+ soil, q40+ water. Pick two. Some people like to go for very high quality node (q60+) and then just trade for the rest.

Also, don't forget there are 5 underground layers with the average quality getting higher the deeper you go. Copper, tin, and iron are very common. Silver and gold not so much.

Thanks again: I have q38 soil in the same place as well. So I guess things are slightly low for your rule of thumb (38 soil + 36 clay rather than 40), but as this is my first world, and I have just left my last village (basically noone played, and the other 2 people who were playing were too scared of Taar death squads to set foot outside - so I just spent my whole time foraging for them), I think I'll set up here for now :).

Thanks

It's a good spot. Like all rules of thumb, it's a guide, and not a 'must do'. :) As you wander, I'm sure you'll find decent q water, too.

I know a nice spot to set up a settlement, it has q38 clay, q55 water, q40 soil, q35 mussel source but sadly no metals found yet in that area :/
Hope you have a great day

Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean that they aren't there. With the random chance of prospecting, you can complete miss a node.

That place sounds amazing :)

And remember, there could also be metals on lower levels :)
