Thieving / Liberation actions

Postby Tharsonius » Tue May 31, 2011 5:30 pm

For some time I had access to a suitable quality of clay. Thinking I'd be an asshole if I would claim the area and block it for other people that way, I left it unclaimed as a 'public resource'. Stupid of course, in retrospect, since someone else was much more practical than me and claimed it instead. Resulting in crapclay treeplanter pots, crappy ovens, crappy kilns and crappy whatnot. In short, it feels like I'm living on a pile of crap due to the a-bit-too-decent upbringing by my parents getting the best of me. The solution is of course to act less compulsively correct and 'free' captive clay like a 2nd Robin Hood, and to be specific clay that is being held captive by someone who holds a claim with an alt and seems to be long-gone. At least, I think so. It seems so. I still worry about the scents though. So, the question:

1. when getting ball-clay from shallow water inside a claim, do I still leave a scent or is it cancelled by the water much like other items dropped in water are gone?

2. can random bypassers who don't own that claim get the scents on it nonetheless and track?

3. (just in case the unthinkable happens) do the scents only point to the character I get the clay with, or is it tied to and account and will it also be risky for his family and descendants-to-be?

1) You leave vandalism scents
2) Yes
3) Just the character that takes the clay. Do note, however, that if people track either that character or the stolen clay to your place, they're likely to completely destroy it. Clay that has been processed further can't be tracked, however.

Vandalism scents don't have a "track item".

Which is why stealing ressources should leave theft scents to prevent people from bringing the resosurces to their town and sacrifice a throwaway vandalism alt in the wilderness so there is no connection to be made.

Thanks for the quick responses, guys!

@Burgingham: I totally agree with you, though with the current claiming system it would favour the big villages and have-alls disproportionally (since they can hog resources practically without limit), even if they're already at a distinct advantage. Add to that the resources hogged by long-gone players. Given the imperfections of the current system, I think the present situation regarding scents is more balanced :)
