Prospecting query

Postby sixteensixty4 » Thu Jun 02, 2011 4:43 am

I discovered rustroot today so have tried prospecting, mostly "no minarals" messages but then finally got a pie slice direction thing, i have read the wiki and some threads over here but still unsure which way i should be following it

At first i thought i should head in the direction its pointed but i just get more "no minerals" messages, so i mined into the wall next to the pie slice and prospected again with no joy

Should i be digging into the wall to the west or the east one? and am i right in thinking theres something close as Q25 rustroot doesn't scan far?

Think of the wedge as a pie slice of accuracy. The narrower it is, the more accurate it is.

From your screenies, you were near the W wall when you prospected, therefore the slice is pointing away towards the ENE. :)

This mechanic is the same for dowsing and tracking. Both are a bit less confusing, though.

Do note that the metal you're detecting is one level down, not on the same level you are. If you want to prospect that cave you need to use rustroot on surface above it.

Yeah i kinda worked that out after a couple of jars of rustroot  I kept following the arrows to get told that such and such metal is below me

I gave up in the end and just started randomly picking at walls and come across some tin, now i just need copper :D

Also i managed to come home with 21 ores at one point and am full industry and when i smelted them they all turned into stone! every single one, its miles to the cave, gutted lol

You could build smelters in the cave.

Aye, theres actually two already down there, but i didnt have fuel and wasnt keen on the idea of people coming in while i was using them as my stats aren't that great and i generally teleport when i see others  ... its not claimed, but looks like it was at some point as it has broken pali outside that must have gone around it

But hopefully i can find some closer to home and then i'll do that!

So do I need to prospect on the normal level to see what's in my cave?
