Mining & stamina

Postby kerianor » Thu Jun 02, 2011 10:59 am

Soooo... I got access to a cave!
But there's a little problem... My character is not much strong and my stone axe is 10q only..
Still i managed to find a wall soft enough for me to mine it but my stamina, even if it's full, is not enough to complete the action.

Is there any way for me to increase my stamina or to reduce the staina i need to perform a mining action?
thanks in advance :)

Yes, they're the only ways. :)

You could probably buy a pickaxe from someone in the Apples for Oranges forums, pcikaxe is way better than stone axe anyway.

the wiki lists the objects required for crafting a pickaxe as:
Bar of Bronze x4 or Bar of Cast Iron x4 or Bar of Steel x4 AND Branch

are the requirements fullfilled even if I have, say, 3 bars of bronze and 1 bar of cast iron?

Actually, it should be "in general, a pickaxe is better than a stone axe". Since Mining Ability = sqrt (str * tool q), some rocks may not be minable with a pick axe. Also, there is a point where a stone axe will actually mine faster than a poor quality pick axe and with less stamina drain.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I bet there's a multiplier someone in there for Pickaxe vs Stone Axe otherwise that's kind of silly.

Not really. Pickaxe goes faster, but usually is lower Q than the stone axe you can make. 99% of the time it's better than a stone axe. But for beginners who have say a Q15 pickaxe vs a Q35 stone axe, sometimes the tool boost past the hardness will allow the slower axe speed to mine faster than the pickaxe. Purely because just barely higher score than wall hardness mines incredibly slow.

Usually this is only an issue for beginners. For people with Q71 pickaxe, it's really unlikely the Q90 stone axe will really make the significant difference.

You may also want to get a bear cape and a beartooth talisman and perhaps become a barbarian in your personal beliefs. Those two items give a nice str boost and aren't too difficult to acquire. Hunting bears from a boat is easy enough right now, even though it may take quite a while with low marksmanship and bad equipment. Unfortunately bears are also somewhat rare.

Resorting to alcohol might also help. The buff supplies you with a bit of strength, but the duration is rather limited which makes it sort of impractical for mining.
I'm still ashamed and embarrassed about my last post. There are many small reasons but no real excuse for what I said in the end. All that remains is regret because I won't be able to make up for it again.

See you in a different game maybe. Hopefully without retardation from my side.
