Help putting crate in boat

I have had problems loading a crate into my boat, I have a friend that was able to do it and told me how, and I tried putting it in fifty times on all sides to no avail. He is more experienced than I am, do I need a certain skill to do this?

Lift the crate and right click on the boat. A new window will open up with 2 squares. Left click on one of them and your crate is in the boat.

If nothing happens when you right click the boat with the crate in your hands it means there are already 2 things inside. so right click the boat and select "open" to check.
