Forceful eviction

Is it possible to completely evict somebody by force? There are some old inactive campers in an area that I want to take over.... Can I kill the sleepers and bash the fires?

Kill them? No.
But if you smash their HFs and claim the place then they can't log back in (at least if they're on your claim), so they have to spawn somewhere in the wilderness.

..But Pclaim the location first, THEN smash the hearthfires. I believe this alleviates the worry of a vandalism scent. This does not appear to work with a Vclaim, however.

You are correct. If the claim is yours then you don't leave any vandalism scents when destroying hearthfires.
