Taking someone's house?

If I find a house, completely stockpiled, but without a claim or any player nearby, wouldn't it just be 'up for grabs'?

There is one maxim in this game:

No claim? Fair game!

Just don't expect a personal claim to be permanent protection. Someone can come along with a Village claim and knock out your personal claim with the "Revoke the Privilege!" command.

It's based entirely on how aggressive you want to be. Anyone can claim ownership of as much as they want but whether or not they have the ability to protect such a claim is dependent. If someone put a runestone down claiming an entire supergrid to themselves, no one would listen to this and people would settle there anyway. A house is just a bigger runestone, in this case. If you decide that you'd like to take advantage of some of their work, cool. If not? Also cool.

Honestly, without even a claim, you're sort of a joke. That is the bare essence of ownership in this game. Before that there is only hiding and coveting of resources in lean-tos and on characters to prevent theft.

You'd be perfectly within your rights to take the house. By within your rights I mean that you'd leave no summonable scents.
