So, how do i get some FEPs from roasted meat?

Postby Ai_Shizuka » Sat Sep 12, 2009 2:01 pm

Right now I'm getting just a bunch of q2 meat, wich doesn't provide any FEP.
I'd like to know the exact requirements to get at least some fep.

- Raw meat quality: is there a level-related cap? As in lev 1 boar=max q10 meat tops? Also, is is affected by the survival skill?
- Stone axe quality: does it affect the quality of raw meat when I butcher the corpse?
- Roasted meat quality: is it affected by the quality of sticks used to light the fire?

Jesus, they sure put some effort into making new players' life as fucking miserable as possible.

1. Higher level animals give better quality meat, and yes, survival does affect it.
2. Yes.
3. Probably.

They also said that roasting meat lowered quality more than they originally wanted it to, no idea if they fixed that yet.

1. Yes, animal level is directly related to the quality of the output, but the exact coefficient differs between the various animals. For foxes, level 1 is q4, for boars it q8, and so on. Rabbits are always q10 regardlessly of where they are found.
2. Yes, and so does the survival value.
3. Nope, but the survival value does, again.

Normally, you'll need q10 meat to get FEPs from it. Seeing how stone axe crafting is also affected by the survival value and that all natural branches and stones are q10, having 10 in survival should be enough to get FEPs, as long as you find animals that yield q10 raw meat or higher. For foxes, that would obviously be level 2½, and for boars, just above level 1 should be enough (though I think roasted boar meat gives 2 "base FEPs", so lower than q10 should work there anyway).

Erm... but wouldn't you need some stats to be able to hunt level 3 foxes and level 2 boars? Stats like Str? That can only be gotten from L3 foxes and L2 boars?

Hrrrmm...
Surprise.

I don't think so. I, for one, have been hunting L3 foxes with the initial physical base values -- all you need is a little unarmed or melee, in my experience.

One of the easiest ways to take down earlier animals is a bow. A good 10-15 points in marksmanship will usually let you hit lvl 1-3 creatures reliably, and the damage is fixed, so your low attributes will not degrade the damage dealt.

That said, since grasslands are much rarer (and therefore fewer sheep), it's much harder to acquire a bow than it was before.

I'm pretty sure you can use plant fibres to make a bow. Infact if you can get high qaulity plant fibres your bow probably would do more damage.

Right, fibers can be used to make a bow, but finding fibers around low level areas is probably borders impossible due to resource depletion.
And yes, higher quality bows do more damage. Of course, having q102 arrows wouldn't hurt either.

Ok, good info here.
I still have to think about the whole system but, once again, I think it's way too harsh on "real" new players.

Yeah well, for sure, we, too, need to think about the whole system. ;)

For one thing, we plan to give the combat system a non-trivial revamp at some time in the hopefully not too distant future. And obviously, the natural resources is something we reconsider continuously. That's why it's called an alpha. ;)
