Mine over an underground lake?

What happens if one makes a minehole over underground lakes, underground buildings, or other items like LC's, crates, etc.?

Seems like there are some situations where you will get a message saying you can't build a mine hole there. I can't recall which off the top of my head, but I think if the ladder area isn't clear of constructions (not containers, etc).

I want to know what happens if the minehole is constructed as a player is underground where the land will be changed. :D
