Besswax Question

Postby Trav84 » Fri Jun 17, 2011 10:45 pm

I searched the forums and found a lot of contrary explanations of beeswax from hives. It seems like there is basically a random chance when a crop matures for a hive to generate honey or wax, with wax being a lower chance. However I've had my beehive going for weeks and never gotten a wax. I got so paranoid I built a new one to replace the old one (because I thought maybe its quality was too low?) but I've still never gotten a single wax.

I harvest my crops daily (or twice a day with carrots) and have gotten most of them up to the 40-60 quality range and still no wax. Do the bees hate me or am I doing something terribly wrong?

I tend to harvest honey when it becomes available, should I let it sit? Am I not growing enough crops ? (I have about a 3x3 or 4x4 area of each crop growing, I try to keep them smaller because I'm focusing on getting their quality up).

Thanks

Pretty sure that honey fills up first, and then once your hive is full of honey it'll start making wax.

I've never seen a hive that had wax but didn't have the visual cue of honey trickling out.

EDIT: Just read your whole post. Yeah your problem is that you're harvesting the honey too soon. Let it sit for a day or two with full honey and you'll start getting wax.

I harvest wax from hives without honey all the time. There is no visual cue for wax so you have to right-click the hives periodically to check for wax. Hives do not need to be full of honey before they start producing wax.

Do not over-lap hives for best honey/wax production. Do try to fill as much of each hive's coverage-area with as many crops as possible. In my experience, hives that cover more than one crop type produce more wax than those that cover only a single crop type but that could be coincidence.

I am 98% sure that hives have to have honey before they can produce wax. You can harvest the honey from a hive with wax in it and the wax will still be available for harvest obviously, but I have never in my year of playing this game (and farming constantly) seen a hive without honey that contained wax.

Mercy is right. However I've never seen a fresh hive without honey being made before wax. I think it just produces the honey first, but having honey in the hive isn't a requirement for the wax to be made.

Everytime a hive produces honey, it has a chance to produce wax from what i understand

Beehives can definitly produce wax without honey. It happened to me several time.

Once the beehive even had two units of wax and no honey. Only happended once though.

will not make wax/honey no crops growing so make lot wax of you need farm all day pack up crops and grow new crops all time
2nd Q level honey/wax sucks you need make time work on make new Bee Hive will help you Q formula = (2*Straw Q + Block Q + Board Q)/4
q level speed up the growing of crops will speed up the wax/honey make to q100+ bee hive good time look for 2nd guy for farming of carrots make carrots 4 to 6 time a day q40 to q60 wax/honey
