Dropping a minehole right next to a cave entrance?

Postby cobaltjones » Mon Jun 20, 2011 7:59 pm

I'm aware that dropping mineholes over object occupied space results in the minehole not being able to be entered. And I'm also aware that around every cave entrance there's a ~30 tile buffer zone that cannot be mined out.

What happens if I try to drop a minehole into this buffer zone area? Would the unmineable tile also count as unoccupiable space and thus not let me enter? Would it create a ladder square area within the unmineable space but then be essentially useless because you could not mine any of the adjacent walls? Could you place mineholes close enough to eachother on the surface so to create a walkable space from the cave entrance through the unmineable tiles?

From what I know if the area underneath the minehole isn't 'unmined'/black tiles you simply can't enter the minehole (the bottom side isn't created).

That's what I'm saying though. What about the black "unmined" tiles that surround a cave entrance? Could you drop a minehole there? And then could you drop another minehole close enough to it so that you could walk from ladder area to ladder area?

Ah okay, needs testing then.

You can put a mine into an unmineable black space. Whether you can make a passage out of several mines, I don't know.

Cool, that's really all I was wondering. Not really related to game mechanics at all, just thought about the area around cave entrances and wondered if you could technically pass through it using a series of mineholes.

Not really game breaking or anything considering if you're able to place mineholes close enough to the cave entrance to enter through the bottom then it'd probably just be easier to use the actual cave entrance.

Just a random thought that came up and was wondering how it would work.
