This is a stupid question I'm sure but do i have to water all of my farms or do they grow on their own. If I do have to water how often should I do that?

Plow, plant, wait, harvest, repeat plowing only if necessary to replant. (Attempting to water the plants would probably prove to you that it is unnecessary, though.)
