MINING

Postby Exiledtexan09 » Sun Jun 26, 2011 3:06 pm

SO..Mining. My second nightmare in a week. If your mining, and all your getting is stone, should you move to a new place? I know..sounds dumb, but I thought I read that unless you prospect an area, you wont know what you have until it's smelted. Does this mean it still says "ore" if you get some metal, or is it hidden in this rock I keep mining?

Basically most of the mining area is covered in stone with the odd ore vein, hardness node and quality node mixed in between. To make sure you have a metal vein nearby you must prospect from a level above (rustroot extract) and then dig towards that direction underground. Since you will need some metal first to build supports to avoid caveins on your way to the node you should instead try to look for a nearby unclaimed cave and mine at the walls every 10-20 tiles or so until you finally receive ore. If stone drops on the ground then there is no ore to be mined from that spot (ores directly appear in your inventory on the other hand). You can of course always use snake tunneling which does not require supports. Search the forums for that because it requires a more indepth explanation and I'm lazy now.

Also, ore veins are pretty common. No need to move away yet. Just do some prospecting first.
I'm still ashamed and embarrassed about my last post. There are many small reasons but no real excuse for what I said in the end. All that remains is regret because I won't be able to make up for it again.

See you in a different game maybe. Hopefully without retardation from my side.
