How do I decide what to craft with steel?

Postby trondaron » Mon Jun 27, 2011 6:11 pm

I have 6xQ38 and 2xQ45 steel bars. My first bars. Is the Q worth making weapons/armor? Should I just make a Sledgehammer first? Can I trade it for clay Q65+ (enough for a kiln and maybe some pots)?

I made it and now have no idea what I should do with it. Please refrain from "give it to me" posts.

steel plate and sword. if you have a better hammer/anvil it will bring up the quality a bit. good q wood block will also help with the sword. or you can give it to me.

I do have access to Q60ish hammer/anvil and q60+ blocks. So this Q of steel really is acceptable(ish) for weapons and armor? I've heard the term 'weapons grade steel' what would be considered that Q lvl?

Thanks for your time.

I'd say generally speaking weapon grade is anything 40+. Wall grade is usually Q5-20 or so. Fuck knows what happened to Q30 steel.

30 is good enough for equipment. (We're talking about newer players and hermits here.) I'd want to upgrade it when I found better bars, though.

I'd go for the sword first. Great for taking out boars and deer in melee combat. Much more interesting than trying to one-shot and chase.

Glad to help. Don't forget MagicMan and TeckX. They post quite a bit on help forums as well.

Gear grade steel is the best you have. Unless your using it to make better Q tools to make better metal.
