Can't Mine!!!!

So I don't have a pick but have stone axe equipped then I go down into a cave or a mine hole and see that ore rock. However I cannot click on it at all and even when I select mine nothing happens, all I can do is expand the mine itself but not mine any ore. WTF is happening???

Im gonna go ahead and guess that ur looking at a cave in rock. These are caused by mining without supports. You cannot mine them you can only destroy them. You mine the actual walls (the black area)

So I don't make another post... quick question:

"There appears to be copper below"... I tri-angulated the location with 2 prospects. Do I drop a mine hole right here? or away a bit, so the cavern underneath doesnt destroy my spot?

Hard to say. could be 5 tiles, could be 20. it depends on the size of the node and where in the node the prospecting hit. (I'm not sure if it shows the closest tile or the 'center' of the node.) Copper, iron, and tin nodes are usually large enough you not going to lose much by dropping it in the middle of the node.
