Vanishing Maps?

So I took a little break from the game, and came back with friends. The maps I'd made (with ink and parchment, not an online program) have all been erased. What up?

How long since you played?

No idea why maps would have been erased unless they were part of the recent server hardware issues. (I haven't looked at mine since I found out they can't be used as curios.)

A few days short of 2 months, I believe. To my knowledge, no one has been to my little hermitage in the meantime. My crops were undisturbed and everything. I have 2 local maps and a region map, which are all blank now.

Ooh. I found some blank local maps in a friend's cupboard the other day, and haven't managed to ask him how they came to be there (i.e. why he'd have blank maps). I haven't checked mine lately (too much flax! no time to explore!) but if they've gone too, I'm assuming the server weirdness is involved.

Maps become blank after server updates it's pictures - server just deletes old pics. I don't know how often it happens, but assume that it keeps few previous versions, because maps last longer than one minimap picture update.

Huh, that would seem to be a fair sized gap in options then... maps disappear regularly...

well, because of disk space is not unlimited, there's only two options for implementing mapping:
1. current one - maps become irrelevant after some time and become blank (by the way, it would be cool if they just turn into blank parchament and could be reused after)
2. make it so already drawn map updates automatically when minimap pics are redrawn - this is not very good and realistic.

I would rather have the map turn back into parchment, at least. As I understand it, I could update the map with the local area, but I'd have to figure out what local area it was tied to.
