How do I get water FAR away from a lake or river?

How do I plant trees, I got the seedlings.

Assuming by seedlings you mean you have put seeds in pots and than let them sprout on an herbalist table. You pick the pot up in the mouse cursor and right click the ground. May have to be near you and on proper (not swamp) terrain.

And how do I know where claimed territory is near by, it says I am alone in the world, I've seen no claimed land, and I seen no signs of other people living in the area.
EDIT: A fox just walked by.

On the minimap should be a pair of icons in the upper left corner of the minimap box. The red banner shows village claim and the skull/goat head shows personal claim. (this may be an Ender's feature too long since I've used base client)

How do I attack animals?

To get water you can build a well, make a dowsing rod to find locations, and you can make one at the appropriate locations you find. (They'll look like squares of water when you're holding the rod. You'll need stone working and carpentry for that, as well as a rope and bucket.

To attack animals you can use any attacks in the combat> attacks menu. Don't do with without a significant amount (say 50 for a fox) of UA (Unarmed skill), armor, etc. Using a sling from a boat is also an option, safer too though more MM (marksmanship) makes it faster. You can walk up to a rabbit or chicken and then grab it without needing any combat abilities - just the hunting skill.
