Cupboard Decay

Postby Girlinhat » Tue Jul 19, 2011 3:13 pm

So I've noticed on some old abandoned claimed nearby, there's a cupboard or two sitting outside, not doing anything. Thinking this neat, I opted to leave some of mine outside for storage. The first one I made has been there a couple days. The second one vanished when no one was looking. The next three have been there for a few days, when two of them disappeared.

Decay on claims seems to be very fickle. Do cupboards decay, or is it some sort of radioactive model where more cupboards = faster decay? I also have a wardrobe that's been out for over a week and hasn't decayed any, while the loom took decay almost instantly. I'm confused...

Items take "decay hits" randomly. Each item can survive a specific amount of hits. For cupboards I believe it's just one hit, but when that hit occurs could vary wildly. For example, it could happen seconds after you put it down I believe.

He's right, I've set a cupboard down, put a load of carrots in and then watched it explode for no reason right after :/

You're correct, cupboards have only a single hitpoint so any decay makes them explode, even on claimed ground. This single hit can take months to happen but it's a gamble each time.

Wardrobes also decay when outside, even on claimed area. I don't actually know how many hitpoints they have since I've never found them to be useful.

I've seen them to be useful for our survival specialist. He can change into the good nettle clothing quickly. And we keep a set or two of basic armor stored, in case of bears/russians/wall-breaking foxes/etc...

Cupboards die hard outside. Go make a house and build'em inside.

This statement is a bit redundant.... Cupboards can ONLY be built inside a house. A cave doesn't even count. Some people haul them outside for temporary use, though.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

They make wonderful short-term use once outside due to their size. Great for sorting and organizing. It's just a gamble every time you do~
Not even a very big one, honestly, the odds of a cupboard decaying during the period of you harvesting your crops and planting your seeds is pretty low.

It's great if you don't have large chests yet and don't want to waste too much time with map transitions between indoors and outdoors.
