Spreading forest terrain

Postby Sitting_Bill » Tue Jul 19, 2011 3:33 pm

Hi,

I'm setting up my treefarm, but unfortunately there is an annoying bit of heath where i want to put the second half of it...

If I plant lower-q trees on that, will they slowly convert it to the correct terrain type? Or is there a quicker way to do this?

They have a chance while growing that they'll convert the tile they're on to forest terrain and that's it. Once they've reached maturity they no longer will even do this. Nothing spreads forest tiles.

Plow the dirt and then plant grass, you can put trees onto artificial grass. Add some stone/brick/dirt border to prevent future encroaching.

Thanks. If I pave the tiles adjacent to the planted square, when/if that square turns to forest, will it prevent it from turning back to heath?

No, forest terrain without a tree within a certain distance can turn into grassland. Having present grassland causes it to spread even faster.

My understanding was that it converted the tile they were on and then a random number of tiles around them.

This has been my experience. I have been working on converting some of the encroaching grassland back into forest terrain by planting firs. Sometimes only the tile on which a new fir is planted converts to forest but in most cases, a few tiles immediately around a new fir are converted.
