okay so this is just a real fast question. do i need to see the fish jumping out of the water to catch them or can i just go around and fish in open water and catch some?

You need to see the fish jumping out of the water.

how can you tell if a fish was just jumping out or not? like iv seen them jump out before. but im in a different area and its got a lake and its annoying just seeing blue the whole time.

You'll see them actively jumping out of the water. If they aren't actively jumping out of the water you can't fish in that zone.

Just wait a moment. They jump fairly quickly, if you spend 5 minutes and don't see anything, then it's not a fish spot. Trust me, when you find a fishing spot you'll know about it pretty quickly.

Well i just found a river thats loaded with fish. i didnt have any fishing stuff on me and my luck on the shore was a bunny that i took off for and killed so i got the hook then found some string and made the pole and carved a figureing thing. just finishing off 2 crates and loading my boat up to go fishing.
