Palisade cornerpost and crossroads question

Postby Aegen » Thu Jul 21, 2011 3:39 am

I was just wondering if you can connect two palisade cornerposts together directly (ie no wall sections between them) also i was wondering if you can build crossroads on a personal claim, the wiki says that it can be built on village claims but i'm not part of a village and still want crossroads.

I'm not sure what you mean by connecting two cornerposts together directly. You have to build a wall section from a cornerpost before you can build another cornerpost. That's the only way you can chain sections together. However, you're still able to build a second cornerpost next to an existing one. It's just going to cost you the extra materials. If you mean two cornerposts built apart from each other, just build wall sections until they connect.

The wiki is 100% correct. Crossroads can only be built on a village claim. There is nothing to misread there. There are many items that are available only to a village. Nothing is stopping you from creating a one-man village, though. In fact, it's highly recommended as it facilitates trading with other players.

Thanks you answered my questions. Also if you open a palisade gate does it stay open until you decide to close it or does it automatically close behind you (I'm assuming the former).

All gates stay open until closed, and vice versa.

Palisade gates also have keys. If you lose the key, the gate is stuck forever (until rammed down). Beware of this, if you leave the gate open and the key inside, you'll eventually have a griefer come up, take they key, and lock you in. Keyalts are common for communal forts, as it lets you hold the key on another account that can never be killed.

Also be aware that if you're holding the key, die, and then respawn as a descendant, you'll respawn inside the wall and the key will be on your dead body outside. Have fun with that! Common advice is to stash enough resources for a battering ram inside the camp.
