scents

Some stuff was stolen from me but when I turn on tracking I don't see anything. It was stolen from a land claim so there should be scents of trespassing and stealing. Is Intelligence 15 and Perception 14 to low for tracking?

Your exploration * perception is checked against the perps stealth * int. It is quite possible you can't see their scents

You must also know the Ranging skill. Seems obvious, but you'd be surprised when people don't know things like this.

You don't get tracking without Ranging, thus he'd never even have the option to

that's something of a bug on characters and the heritage system, maybe limited to the Ender's client. if you had a char with ranging and set ranging to some key in the shortcut belt, then the key will work and the ranging icon will appear. after the char is killed and you inherit everything, it will still work, although the heir char might not have bought the ranging skill yet.

If their int*stealth is high enough even that won't find much success and after it does you'll get something like 1 scent to track.

Not to mention that you might not be able to get any usable direction from the scents you do find.
