Last tree stage

Postby Sitting_Bill » Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:48 am

Is it normal that the trees grow quickly to the second last stage, then just sit there for ages?

I planted 25 trees, 2 of them have fully grown but the other 23 are stubbornly refusing to grow up, for a couple of days now... Is this normal, or are they stuck?

It's quite possible they're stuck. I would still give it more time though as growth ticks are random

:(

Thanks.. Here is a pic of the treefarm (I cut one of the finished trees, hence the gap). These are far enough apart, right?

according to: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20778&start=10#p251070
it's random. Some trees mature next day after reaching second-to-last phase, some other need days or even weeks.

Also, if the tree is stuck it will never grow beyond second to last phase. But the ones in your picture are fine.

In case you are not aware - quality of seeds / branches / bark is already maxed at the second-to-last phase, so you can freely use those already (to plant new, better ones for example)

Ah - thanks a lot Procne! Is the wood q also maxed, or did you leave that out deliberately ;)

It is also maxed, but you get a lot less of it. In case of trees that normally produce 2 logs - they will produce only 1 in this phase.
And trees that normally produce 1 log will give 4 wood blocks.

Ah, ok.

Could a wild animal spawning among the trees have caused them to be stunted? At what point should I just cut my losses and chop them all down? After a week or so?

I don't know if animal can do that. If it's in tree radius while it attempts to grow - then probably yes, but the chance for that is really low.
Most of my trees reached maturity sooner or later.

As to when should you chop them down - I'd say it depends. If you badly need some high ql wood and don't have time to wait for them - chop down as many as you need. Or if you are running out of space in your tree farm. Or if some trees turned out to be of lower quality than expected / needed - just get rid of them.

But if you don't need their wood right now and you still have space - why not just let them grow.

I had a fir tree that was stuck on the next to last stage for i think several weeks. (There were crashes though) I'd even given the tree up for being stunted even though there was no blocking items around it. I'd even planted other trees that got finished before it finally got a decay hit and grew up. :? So I'd second Procne, if they're lower quality or you really need the wood chop them down, otherwise be patient for a while longer - it doesn't take any effort to let them sit there a bit longer.
