Sorting Seeds by Quality.

Postby kin » Fri Jul 29, 2011 3:55 am

My method of sorting my seeds by quality is to open all the seed bags, put my cursor over every seed (make a quality requirement for the ones to keep) and drop them by Ctrl+Left-Click or use them as feed. Is there possibly a quicker way of sorting seeds such as keyboard shortcuts or is that the only way? Cheers.

if you use Ender's client, it shows you the quality of all items in your bag so it's a lot easier to sort seeds.

Ctrl+Shift+mousewheel will move them between containers in order of quality, highest moving first. Doesn't work with seed bags, those tend to be bad for farming. I plant 1x20 farm plots, which with full nature means that a cupboard holds 21 plant's worth of seeds (3 seed x 20 plants < 8*8 cupboard). This makes for very convenient sorting, as I can harvest everything, toss it in the cupboard, withdraw 20 via the previously mentioned method, and then replant. For larger field, just make a new row and use a new cupboard. This means every row is an independent batch with its own quality level, but I've not found an easy way to cross-plant fields. It may be better to cross-plant for quality, but you'll get a half-dozen plants 1-2 q higher doing that, and I find that the convenience of simple 1x20's makes up for the marginal quality drop. Farming is difficult enough, but my method makes it fairly easy and straightforward. It also scales for other sized containers, coffers hold 25 for an 8 area plot, so you could use 1x8 rows and coffers instead. Or whatever container you've got.

Cltr+Shift+Mouse Wheel auto sorts them into containers based on quality. Fastest way I know of to sort seed quality.

Newest Ender version allows two actions.

Both methods use the mouse wheel. Scrolling down places items in the container, scrolling removes them. The following key combinations allow an auto-sort while doing this.

Ctrl+Shift: Descending sort, highest quality items first.
Ctrl+Shift+Alt: Ascending sort, lowest quality items first

This sorts ALL items from your inventory to the container. So for example if sorting seeds and carrying around a Q200 water flask, the flask (assuming your seeds are all less than q200) will be placed in the container first if using ctrl+shift.
