Palisade gate key issues.

Postby Kollin » Sun Jul 31, 2011 9:01 pm

so, ive been told to keep a key on an alt character. however the problem arises of what the other people will do if im not on? they cant get in or out because i have the key and im not on. we dont have a village and we arent even close to having one so we cant make crossroads yet. it isnt advised to give everyone a key, and i couldnt anyways as we dont have metal yet. so im lost as to what to do, besides just leaving the gate open, and thats not advised either.

Make an alt on an account that all the trusted villagers have access to on which the key would be stored. Tah Dah.

A good tip I've seen somwhere is build a crossroad to get out of the village, but not the oposite. People can TP to their heart fire

This. Found a village. Build two crossroads. MAKE SURE the crossroads only lead out of the village, never in!! If they lead in, anyone can come and use the crossroad to enter your village. (This is also a great way of connecting to regular trade partners.)

A nugget of metal will let you copy the key using clay to make a mold of the key, then using the mold on the nugget. If you sufficiently beg at a nearby village, you'll either get a nugget or get killed. Requires locks and keys skill.

When using the village crossroad method, make sure you can mass produce booze.

Yes. If you get killed while out and about u dont want ur base to be completely compromised.

I'm a hermit and I have made a village. Helps with trading, teleport to mines and back. Stops keys being found on your dead friends and stops everything you have worked on getting destroyed, so yes I think it's important. Also start on brick walls, people can bash palisades with hammers these days. In short you can never be too careful.
