find strings for fishing as a newbie

according to the wiki you need a string for fishing and the only feasible option for someone who just started is finding a spindly taproot. for it you need foresting and to be in a forest area, I have foresting and I am in a forest area but I can't find the darn root anywhere. how can you find it?

Foraging. You also may need to raise your Exploration skill a couple of points.

Buy up exploration by a point or two and walk around a little bit. You'll find plenty.

This article explains how foraging works. It also provides the approximate numbers needed to see various items.
