where are them chickens and rabbits?

Postby Rexmundi » Mon Aug 01, 2011 10:58 am

I learned hunting but all I seem to find are moose, foxes, toads and boars. Since I can't kill those for bone i need a chicken or a rabbit to process further in the game. Every next skill seems to require bone or something made with bone tools. But after a few hours all I've seen is the above list. is there some trick to see rabbits/chickens (exploration is at lvl 4.)

Skills and abilities don't matter at all. They're a random spawn. Rabbits occur mostly in the forests while chickens spawn on grassland, heath, and moor. Wander around and you'll find what you're looking for.

You also need the skill, hunting, to be able to pick them up and wring their neck. Make sure you first left left to move next to them until you bump into them. Then set your movement speed to run (alt-e) before right clicking on them. In your inventory, right click the chicken/rabbit and click "Wring Neck". Right click again to "Butcher" the carcass. That should allow you to discover bone.

Also stay far away from boars and bears, they are aggressive and will kill you.

An enemy will only fight if he believes he either has a chance to win, or you've backed him into a corner and he's fighting for his life. A completely crushing victory provides an enemy with neither.

pfff well so far I have been wandering for hours and no rabbit nor chickens at all.. it's annoying you need bone that hard.. seems to me the spawn rate is absurdly low.

thanks for the help.

You're just unlucky, or you're not really looking. Rabbits are a plague, they're pretty much everywhere in good amounts. Chickens only occur on grass/moor/heath. If you're using Ender's, then every time you zoom out there's like a dozen rabbits everywhere. Not really, but they're extremely common.

Trees can hide a lot. That's why the post above suggests using another client. You can download custom clients in "The Wizards' Tower" forum. Rabbits are common enough, though. I usually find one per map grid I search.

Not sure about this, but I've heard others agree with me before; Animals have a higher spawn rate in the day time.

I don't even bother looking for chickens at night any more.
