Minehole Problem

so i built my first minehole and now i'm really desperate.

just look at it ...



it is 2 tiles away from a huge cavern and i can't manage to remove these

the wiki says :

Messages that occur while mining (each message means 10-15 more Mining ability to mine):

* You dont even manage to scratch that rock.
* That rock is very too much hard for you to mine.
* That rock is too much hard for you to mine.
* That rock is slightly too much hard for you to mine.
* That rock is little too hard for you to mine.

i get the first message which tells me "you don't even manage to scratch that rock"

at the moment i have 25 STR and a q10 stoneaxe (the best i can get) does that mean i have to acquire roughly 60 more STR?

wouldn't it be better to build another minehole right next to it?

eh, why make a thread about this

the problem is obvious that you're a newb

get more strength and a pickaxe and come back at a later time

bear cape / bear tooth talisman will increase your strength by a lot

No point building another minehole -> cause you will never be able to mine (your str/equipment is not good enough).

If you are really desperate to mine (like i was long time ago), get the best pickaxe/stoneaxe you can, wear bear cape, bear talisman, get boar snuff and drink wine. Then you can dig something.

well atleast i have now another goal which keeps me playing this game

Hunt and eat boars and at least one bear. When collecting bones from the bear's skeleton, make sure you have LOTS of space in your inventory so as to be certain of discovering bear teeth. Make a bear cape and talisman. Keep eating boars, bears and pumpkins, being mindful of your food diversity bonus. With that and getting quite drunk and probably taking some snuff (as has already been mentioned), you should be able to get into the cave, where there will hopefully be a place with softer rock.

Also, even if you don't know anyone well enough to trade, I know of multiple locations - decayed village claims, a place outside a claim, and, ok, somewhat risky, someone's claimed but unfenced tree plot - with trees higher than q10. If you keep looking, even if you can't find a stone node on a mountain or in a different cave, you will sooner or later find a tree above q10.

It's not hard to get better stone axe. One thing is getting higher quality branches (assuming you have done some tree farming). Another thing you can do is exploring mountain areas looking for higher quality rocks.
