Village Lawspeaker

If I got this right when a Village Lawspeaker dies his reincarnation becomes the LS. What if this reincarnation then leaves the village and the village has no chieftain, is the village without a LS then?
How does one claim a LS position in such village?

From what I have seen, when village loses LS then any villager can become LS.
If there are no other villagers then you have to wait until authority drops below 50k, and then anyone can become LS

So, if there is no LS, then I can get Lawspeaker on my char and right click the idol to get the option of becoming Lawspeaker?

Yes, I believe so.
When I was changing villages and renounced lawspeaker in my old one, I could simply right click the idol and become lawspeaker on any of my villager alts
