Animals despawning

Postby Avo1 » Sun Aug 07, 2011 4:24 am

I recently wandered a long distance in search of live chickens to breed. After a extended period of time i managed to find a heard so i crated them up and hauled them home to dump them in my new chicken coop. Will they despawn if i don't tame them? Do they require food or can they forage off the grass?

You can't tame chickens. Left alone on the map, they will despawn when that section of the map is unloaded. Left alone in a container (crate/cupboard) they will slowly starve to death and eventually die. Left alone in a chicken coop with food, they will live normally (and breed if you've got both sexes present).

Chickens will still lay eggs without a rooster, but they won't ever hatch.
