Girly Bears

Postby Lasteast » Tue Aug 09, 2011 7:34 pm

I've noticed an increase in bears fleeing.

I had to run a half marathon through the woods, had to reengage 3 times, and almost got mauled.

Whats the deal with bears?

a certain percentage always ran and they dont have stam penalties when they run :(

just either keep track of the ballpark HP of mr bear or be ready to sprint and punch when he goes.

also a certain percantage will come back to you after they run for a second, but that's another story

I think they run when you do enough damage fast enough. When I was fighting bears using sword (250 dmg per hit) instead of going berserk they ran.
When I tried fighting them using stone axe (whooping 50 dmg per hit) they never ran.

I have also noticed that when I jump into boat while they run, they will stop running and come back to me doing absolutely nothing

With the exception of aurochsen and mouflons, all animals has a damage threshold in which they will flee. The condition for fleeing is different for range and for melee as well.

For range, each shot that deals 10%+ of its HP will constantly increase the chance of it running.
For melee, they will are much less likely to flee until they are low on health, then the chance of them fleeing is how much damage over 10% you have inflicted before it.

An enemy will only fight if he believes he either has a chance to win, or you've backed him into a corner and he's fighting for his life. A completely crushing victory provides an enemy with neither.

Pretty much what I do. One bit of warning: if you have a map section near that you haven't visited recently, the animal will despawn if it runs there. Lost I don't know how many bear and deer because of this.

Shoot them immediately after they twitch and they'll never flee. Bears are too much of a pain in the butt/precious commodity to bother attempting any other way.

I hunt with a sword and either use shallows or jump out of the boat after each twitch, skulding to full advantage, opportunity knocks to remove it's defense, and then slapping it with one valorous.... I started doing this after I just got tired of bears running.
